'His Kids' Preschool and Pre-K Program Daily Schedule
Arrival: 9:00- 9:10 or 12:30-12:40
Arrival time provides a smooth transition from home to school. Both children and families are greeted. Children are encouraged to be independent with book bags, coats and hats. Parents are given the opportunity to communicate with staff, other families and to interact with their preschoolers before departure.
Morning & Afternoon Meeting: 9:10-9:20 or 12:40-12:50
Children gather for large group instruction. Staff welcomes everyone to school, children sing songs and recall activities from last school day. Staff shares learning opportunities that are available in each center “open” that day. Children make a choice and plan their first play event.
Free Choice Time/Learning Centers: 9:20-10:15 or 12:50-1:45
Children travel to their first learning center and begin working independently, with other children, staff and/or materials. They are free to select and/or modify their plan at any time. Also during this time, children will be asked to join staff at a specific learning center (art/discovery table/ water/sand table, etc.) for individual or small group instruction.
Clean-up: 10:15-10:20 or 1:45-1:50
Staff and children work cooperatively to return all materials to their respective places. The classroom is labeled with pictures and words, making clean up a child-friendly, independent task.
Circle: 10:20-10:40 or 1:50-2:10
Staff and children come together once again for a large group instruction time. Children pause to remember which friends are missing. Prayer, songs, stories, fingerplays, music movement, take-home activity and conversation take place. Children learn from staff and from each other through the exchange of ideas.
Bathroom/Snack: 10:40-11:00 or 2:10-2:30
Staff assists children with their toileting skills, and share proper hygiene methods. Designated children pass out napkins and cups. Staff and children share the provided snack and conversation is encouraged among table members.
Gross Motor: 11:00-11:20 or 2:30-2:50
Large muscle activity time is provided either indoors (gym) or outdoors (playground) depending on weather conditions. Staff participates in and supports the children's play.
Getting ready for dismissal: 11:20-11:30 or 2:50-3:00
Children prepare to go home by finding their outdoor garments and putting them on (staff will assist with zips, button, hats, gloves, etc.) and placing all take-home
papers in their book bags. Staff will make final announcements and then together children and staff will sing a farewell song.
Dismissal: 11:30 or 3:00
